Brazil Plastic Petition

Brazil produces the fourth most plastic waste of any country and only recycles about 1%.

Plastic pollution has increased over the last 30 years and now presents as a global problem that requires collective action to solve. Plastic has become so abundant it is constantly all around us — in our homes, schools, workplaces, and even our natural spaces.

Currently, only 9% of plastic all plastic consumed is being recycled, with the rest ending up in landfills or the environment. Plastic’s chemical composition makes it unable to fully decompose, causing pollution to build up and creating problems for our planet and human health. If we keep using plastic at this rate, our planet will suffer.

Brazil ranks fourth in the global waste producer ranking, producing over 11.3 billion tons and recycling only 1.28%. Without proper disposal and recycling systems in place, plastic harms environments around the country. Plastic can be especially harmful to our environments and can wind up affecting wildlife as well as humans as the plastics start to break down. When plastics break down in our environment, they create microplastics which can leach chemicals into our food, water supply, and even our air. Sign the petition below and let your government know you them to reduce the amount of plastic pollution that finds its way into nearby rivers, streams, and other bodies of water by implementing restrictions on plastic use across the country.
