Sign this petition to urge the Argentinian government not to redefine plastic waste, keeping it out of the country.
Currently, only 9% of plastic all plastic consumed is being recycled, with the rest ending up in landfills or the environment. Plastic’s chemical composition makes it unable to fully decompose, causing pollution to build up and creating problems for our planet and human health. If we keep using plastic at this rate, our planet will suffer.
Some politicians in Argentina have recently considered creating new legal definitions for plastic waste that would make it easier for recycling facility operators in the country to import more plastic waste from around the world. China once imported a vast amount of the world's plastic waste in the same way until it decided in 2018 that it was not worth the environmental damage it was wreaking on the country. Now the world wants to ship its plastic waste to Argentina, where it will clog rivers and beaches, harm wildlife, and threaten human health. We cannot allow this to happen. Sign this petition to tell President Fernandez that any attempt to change the rules around the importation of plastic waste is unacceptable.
