Petition for Better Air Quality in Kazakhstan

Air pollution throughout Kazakhstan is linked mining and processing of mineral resources, oil and gas production, vehicle emissions, and other major industries.

The air we breathe is vital for the health of humans, animals, and the plants we share the earth with. In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in particulates, chemicals, and harmful gases in our atmosphere, contributing to health issues, and millions of premature deaths worldwide. Not only is poor air quality bad for humans, but it is also linked to climate change and biodiversity loss.

One way to measure air quality is through fine particulate matter called PM2.5. These tiny particles enter the air from many human and natural sources, such as dust and vehicle exhaust, and can make the air appear hazy when at high levels. Particles can travel vast distances, meaning air pollution caused in one place may transcend borders to impact people in another region altogether. The decline in clean air is a threat to human health, the environment, greater economic prosperity, and society.

Industrial emissions create serious problems for human and ecosystem health. Kazakhstan's mining and processing of mineral resources release air pollutants that can be harmful to those living nearby and contaminate natural systems such as waterways. However, since air pollution can travel long distances, it can also affect those living thousands of miles away. Let your government know that it must take bold strides to reduce Kazakhstan's industrial air pollution!
