Petition for Better Air Quality

It is estimated that 4.6 million people die every year from causes attributable to poor air quality.

The air we breathe is vital for the health of humans, animals, and the plants we share the earth with. In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in particulates, chemicals, and harmful gases in our atmosphere, contributing to health issues, and millions of premature deaths worldwide. Not only is poor air quality bad for humans, but it is also linked to climate change and biodiversity loss.

One way to measure air quality is through fine particulate matter called PM2.5. These tiny particles enter the air from many human and natural sources, such as dust and vehicle exhaust, and can make the air appear hazy when at high levels. Particles can travel vast distances, meaning air pollution caused in one place may transcend borders to impact people in another region altogether. The decline in clean air is a threat to human health, the environment, greater economic prosperity, and society.

On behalf of our families and communities, we urge you to take immediate action to protect our health from air pollution and climate change. We call on our international leaders to support policies that clean up power plants, oil and gas operations, transportation, and other sources of pollution. By cleaning up these sources, we can undercut climate change and reduce other dangerous pollution at the same time. Sign this petition to add your name to a list calling on the UN General Assembly to prioritize air pollution and climate change in international policy-making and end the world's dependence on dirty energy.
