Lux Art Institute Celebrates its Annual Creative Nights Event on April 25, 2020: Taking Action: Art & the Environment
Encinitas, CA–Lux Art Institute is celebrating the environment this year by Taking Action. Through it’s annual Creative Nights Event, Lux will host art installations, performances, panel discussion, activities for kids and adults, and a VIP party from 4pm until 10pm on April 25, 2020. The event will move beyond awareness and focus on ways that visitors can take action toward building a sustainable environment. In partnership with the Earth Day Network, Lux will be recognized as one of the primary Earth Day events throughout the county.
Artists-in-Residence, Kahn & Selesnick will be presenting their series “Truppe Fledermaus: The Carnival at the End of the World”, an apocalyptic celebration of humanity’s connection to the environment, in the Artist Pavilion while local artist Michelle Montjoy will be presenting her installations of recycled fabric in the Education Pavilion. Montjoy will have looms available for visitors to collaborate in the creation of her network of fabric trunks. Each loom sits four individuals who work together to rebuild trees from discarded textiles. Video projections by Ulu Braun recognize both the industrialization of the world, the resulting chaos, and the collective vision towards a blissful future of sustainability.
Taking Action: Art & the Environment will be 100% powered by Lux’s new solar array. Lux will be working with Solana Center to make this a zero-waste event with recycled materials and food composted after the event. Join terrarium-making activities using recycled plastic bottles, and take environmental and art tours of Lux’s six-acre campus to learn about the diverse plants and animals that inhabit our coastal landscape as well as visit our sculpture path and current exhibitions.
